Prof. Li Xianming from Liaocheng University gave an academic lecture in our college

In order to better enhance the academic research ability and master the research methods of master's and doctoral students, in the afternoon of March 14, Mr. Li Xianming, a special professor from the School of History, Culture and Tourism of Liaocheng University, was invited to our school to hold a special lecture on the theme of "'Small Subjects, Big Work' - Methodology of Researching 'Confucius Archives'". -More than 20 master students and doctoral students actively attended and participated in the discussion, and the response was enthusiastic.

Before the lecture began, Professor Li Yu of the Department of Chinese History briefly introduced the lecturer, Professor Li Xianming. Professor Li graduated from Nanjing University and his main research interests are modern social and cultural history and the history of the Chinese Communist Party. He has published dozens of papers in the Journal of Fudan University (Social Science Edition) and other journals, and they have been reprinted in Xinhua Digest and NPC Reprographic Journal Materials.

He pointed out that personal interest, awareness of the problem and the abundance of research materials are some of the factors that beginners should consider when choosing a topic for their research. Afterwards, Professor Li used the Kong De Bao diary from the Confucius House Archives as an example to illustrate how a small topic can be "made bigger". Her views on the state, society, family and war, as well as her complex emotions and inner world, were actually the result of a "social construction". Thus, although Condébourg is a 'small person', the issues reflected in her diary are 'big history'. As a researcher, it is necessary to 'find the problem, create the problem, solve the problem, explain the problem', to move from the small to the large, to start with the small issues and further care for the big history.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Li Yu commented on the content of the presentation. Mr Li expressed his gratitude to Professor Li Xianming for his brilliant speech and pointed out that "small topics with big impact" is indeed a kind of research ability that PhD students need to exercise and master, and the content of the lecture has important guiding significance for the audience. At the same time, the choice of "small topic" is not based on "small" as the only criterion, the topic itself should have a certain degree of attention, influence and foresight, and have the tension of interpretation, while how to make it big needs to be extended from individual to a certain type, from image to abstract, real and imaginary, and to improve the art of drafting. It is important to combine the real with the imaginary and the real, and to improve the art of drafting to make the essay more attractive.

Li Ying, a PhD student of the School, commented on the content of the lecture, pointing out that the content of Professor Li Xianming's lecture could both "enter into the case" and "leave the case". Although the Confucius House Archive is a local archive, Professor Li's interpretation is not only local, but also reflects the changes of the times that shaped the psychological activities of the characters, thus revealing the inner connection between the characters and society during the war. Xu Jiagui, a PhD student at Nanjing University's School of History, and others also engaged in a lively exchange with Professor Li Xianming.

Finally, Mr. Li Yu made a concluding speech, in which he fully affirmed the significance of this lecture in improving the topic selection and research ability of master's and doctoral students, and also looked forward to more opportunities to create more opportunities to strengthen the communication between the college, students and Professor Li Xianming, and the lecture ended successfully in a warm applause.
